The Lac St. Louis peewee girls brought home silver medals from the girls' baseball Provincial Championships held at St-Honoré, in the Saguenay region August 3 to 5.
This was a tremendous accomplishment for the region as Lac St. Louis began participating in the Provincials only in 2010.
It took a gritty performance by the girls as they fashioned two spectacular comebacks to finish the round-robin segment with a 3-0 record. In the championship match-up the Lac pack lost to a solid Saguenay squad. LSL was shut down 6-0 on a complete-game one-hitter by Saguenay stand-out Pascale Jalbert.
The girl's peewee team included representatives from six different associations from the LSL Region. They were led by players-of-the-game Erica Ahad (Dollard), Sandrine Bérubé (Beauharnois), Evelyn Laferrière (West Island), and Fatima Robles-Rivas (AA Cardinals).
Ahad was a consistent lead-off hitter who scored the dramatic winning run on a passed ball in game two in a 10-9 win over Mauricie and pitched 5 and 1/3 innings in the championship game.
Bérubé drove in nine runs from the clean-up spot, including a three-run home-run in the final inning of game three to cap a nine-run comeback by the team in a 9-4 win over Quebec.
Laferrière won all three games with consistent pitching, including 3 and 2/3 innings of one-hit relief against Quebec.
Robles-Rivas led the team in on-base average, reaching bases 10 out of 11 times from the three-spot while delivering three extra base-hits and stealing seven.
