Bergman supports Bachand for Liberal leadership

By Joel Goldenberg, October 24th, 2012

D'Arcy McGee MNA Lawrence Bergman announced Friday that he is supporting Outremont MNA and former Quebec finance minister Raymond Bachand for the Quebec Liberal leadership.
Bachand was the first to announce he was running. When Bachand announced his intentions, he already had the support of Anjou-Louis-Riel MNA Lise Thériault, Trois Rivières MNA Danielle St. Amand, Acadie MNA Christine St-Pierre and Chomedey MNA Guy Ouellette.
“My colleague and constituency neighbour, Raymond Bachand, a former co-president of the Tolerance Foundation, is a strong proponent of harmony, respect, tolerance, and social peace, values dear to the foundation and to myself and which will make him a good leader,” Bergman said in a statement.
The MNA added that Bachand was “one of the principal architects of the economic success of Quebec during the difficult economic times that the world was going through.
“Quebec benefitted from economic stability recognized by the rating agencies, this in large part due to the expertise and experience of Raymond Bachand,” Bergman said. “It is for these reasons that I sincerely believe that Raymond Bachand, a man of compassion and vision, can lead the Quebec Liberal Party and lead us to success so that Quebec can prosper at home, within Canada and abroad.”
The other Quebec Liberal leadership candidates so far are former provincial health minister Philippe Couillard, and former provincial transport minister Pierre Moreau.n
