Cougars handle Roughriders

The St. Leonard Pee Wee Cougars downed the Alexander Park Roughriders 44-26 Saturday in Pierrefonds.
“We played as a team and that's why we won as a team,” said Cougars' running back Cedric Deusma. “We concentrated on the game and the team gave good blocks working together as a team.”
Both teams were evenly matched in the opening quarter on the rain-soaked field with the Roughriders opening with a touchdown by Sebastian Figut. The Cougars quickly answered with the first of six successful touchdowns by Deusma delivering at tie by the end of the opening quarter. According to Deusma “the rain made it hard to play.”
The Cougars opened the second quarter with a touchdown by Deusma as both teams continued to struggle for control of the field. It was only in the closing minute of the half that Roughriders broke through with a second touchdown by Fugit followed with a successful convert by teammate John Michael Migella before Deusma scores with another touchdown ending the half 18-14. According to Cougars' head coach Cougars head coach Patrice Archambault “we found a hole in their defence.”
“We had to make a few adjustments to get the ball rolling,” conceded Archambault about the opening half of the game. “Our defence also had a hard time dealing with their offence.”
The Cougars opened the second half with Deusma scoring two more touchdowns, but not before a Roughrider touchdown carried by Jordan Rivest. In the final quarter the Cougars delivered a devastating two touchdowns with Deusma's sixth touchdown followed by teammate the Nelson Olivier capping-off the Cougar's final score, but not before a defiant Roughrider's touchdown ending the game 44-26. Despite the loss, Roughriders' head coach Terry White is “still proud of my team.”
“Our offence played their best game of the year,” said White about the game. “The kids did what they had to do, but we came-up short.”
