Bombardier to set up shop in Pointe Claire

By Kevin Woodhouse, September 26th, 2012

In an effort to streamline productivity and to centralize maintenance needs for its business aircraft division, Bombardier will be setting up shop in Pointe Claire. The move will see five other current sites in Montreal merged into the building located on Sources and, appropriately enough, Aviation Avenue.
"The move will allow Bombardier to consolidate certain activities from our other sites into the larger site," Phil Nasskau, spokesperson for Bombardier Business Aircraft, told The Suburban.  "There will be no impact on current employees and no layoffs in the change."
In all, 700 employees in manufacturing, support and administration will soon call the new facility in Pointe Claire their new work place with the transfer of the employees expected to take place before the end of 2012, according to Nasskau although "exact dates are not available."
The new facility will be a cost effective measure for the company that works on the completion of global aircraft interiors including cabinetry and upholstery.  Two of the planes being fitted will be the Global 7000 & 8000 models.  In their business aircraft division, Bombardier also builds Challengers and Lear jets.
When asked about the new business coming to Pointe Claire, Mayor Bill McMurchie was "very happy with the development" and that the city is not very far from Pierre Elliot Trudeau where Bombardier's global completion centre is located.
