The Hellenic Scholarships Foundation has announced the opening of its 2012-2013 scholarship competition.
The organization awards ten $2,000 scholarships each year to full-time Quebec university students who have completed their first year of studies.
Nine of the scholarships are granted to Quebec residents of Hellenic descent. In addition, the foundation offers a Hellenic Studies scholarship that is open to any Quebec student, regardless of origin, who is currently enrolled in full time university studies of Hellenic language, history or culture.
Chomedey’s recently re-elected representative in the Quebec legislature, Guy Ouellette, has again this year sponsored the Chomedey-Laval Hellenic scholarship, which he has supported since 2008.
“The Hellenic Scholarship Foundation,” said the Liberal MNA, “provides me with the opportunity to encourage a student attending an institution of higher learning in Quebec who is excelling in his studies.”
In addition to providing a two-page curriculum vitae, proof of enrolment and official transcripts, applicants are expected to submit a 500-word essay outlining their career objectives and their intended contribution “to Hellenism or to Canadian society-at-large.”
Details about the scholarships are available at the foundation’s web site: www.hellinicscholarships.org n
