It has most definitely been a journalistic perk to have such a close connection to prominent Hollywood producer, director and writer Peter M. Lenkov over the years. The Chomedey native has enjoyed a very successful career in show business, particularly with hot drama series’ such as The District, 24, CSI New York and most recently the reboot of Hawaii Five-0, seen locally on Global and CBS.
The season three premiere of Hawaii Five-0 will air next Monday evening, September 24 at 10 p.m. picking up where last year’s cliffhanger finale left off when lead character Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) discovered that his presumed dead mother (to be played by Christine Lahti) was very much alive. Côte Saint-Luc native David Wolkove is back on the writing team and will handle the script for two episodes. “It's been an amazing ride so far,” says Lenkov. See the next Suburban Magazine, online this Friday evening for more about the series, photos and videos.
Another Lenkov Makes Headlines: Meanwhile, moving over to Chicago, seven year old Emma Lenkov has become quite the celebrity in the windy city. Emma’s dad Rich is a Chicago lawyer and Peter’s brother. He and his wife Patti are huge Bruce Springsteen fans. Whenever Springsteen and his E Street Band come to the Windy City, Rich and Patti attend his concerts. Just over a week ago Springsteen had a sold out show at Wrigley Field. Emma came along, with a huge sign saying “Pick Me” for the part when Springsteen traditionally brings a youngster on stage to sing Waiting on a Sunny Day with him. Well you guessed it, Emma got the nod and was outstanding. Go to The Suburban Magazine, online now, to see the full story and see the incredible video.
Perfume Queen: Montreal native Barb Stegemann, who used her appearance on CBC’s The Dragon’s Den to take her fragrance collection called the 7 Virtues to enormously successful levels, will be at The Bay downtown on Friday at noon to mark International Day of Peace and show her products. The beautiful and charismatic Stegemann, who now resides in Halifax, sources fair trade organic oils for her fragrances. Suppliers from Afghanistan and Haiti provide seasonal employment for their tribes and communities. Stegemann is soon expected to be included in a list of the top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada.
Tories Woo West Island: The Federal Tories continue to court the West Island, three years ahead of the next election. Industry Minister Christian Paradis spoke to the West Island Chamber of Commerce last week, with Senators Larry Smith and Jacques Demers in attendance. “I think the Minister's visit is great news for the West island community,” press attaché Alexandra Fortier told me. He was able to discuss, exchange and become more familiar with the business community.” See my blog for a complete copy of Paradis’ speaking notes.
Word of Thanks: I wish to take this opportunity to thank friends, family, supporters and readers for your enormous support following the recent passing of my dad, Suburban icon Lawrence Frederick Cohen (Larry Fredericks). Over the past two weeks my family has received countless emails, letters and cards. People have donated generously in Larry’s name to the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors Foundation and other charities. Friends and colleagues sent us shiva platters. Sadly, I also had my first direct experience with Paperman and Sons. Thanks to Earl Lackman and Joseph Paperman in particular for taking us through this difficult process.
