The Matchmaker opens in Montreal

August 29th, 2012

Following the critically-acclaimed films The Secrets and Turn Left At The End of the World, influential Israeli director Avi Nesher has created a portrait of Israel in 1968 that weaves the post-Holocaust era with a closer look at the struggles of the underworld through a romantic coming-of-age film.
Inspired by Amir Gutfreund's novel When Heroes Fly, The Matchmaker won the Audience Choice Award at the 25th Israeli Film Festival in New York. The film will open in Montreal at the Cavendish Mall on Friday, Aug. 31
The film centers around Arik Burstein (Tuval Shafir), whose first experience of love overlaps with a larger, more intricate drama of a complex world explored through the unusual adults he is working for, and whom he comes to respect and love.
