More than 2,300 people gathered Aug. 6 to celebrate Israel Day at the Festival Lumières sur le Lac in Ste. Agathe des Monts.
Dozens of Israeli flags adorned the streets, and on site was an Israeli-themed tent manned by staff from the Consulate General of Israel in Montreal. Passersby were served delicious Israeli fare and handed information on Israel. Calligraphers also printed special Hebrew nametags for hundreds of excited festival attendees of all ages.
During the evening, there was a special laser show on water, on Lac des Sables. Following that was an open air concert by the band Kleztory, who performed lively upbeat medleys fusing Eastern European, Balkan and Oriental music genres.
Israeli Consul General Joel Lion, along with Ste. Agathe Mayor Denis Chalifoux and Bertrand MNA Claude Cousineau, addressed the thousands in attendance.
“This was a marvelous gathering,” Lion said. “A wonderful opportunity for Israel to present itself and its vibrant cultural mosaic to the Québécois mainstream.”
